It was purely coincidence that I got to meet and photograph newborn Oscar on the day of the Academy Awards. The cute comments I was able to make afterwards were worth it alone, but mere icing on the cake when you factor in the Oscar I actually got to hold.
Oscar made his debut after an extremely fast labor for a first baby (3 hours!!!!). Only a week old when I met him, he seemed completely comfortable at home where his friendly, warm and hilarious parents were quite obviously over the moon. He really, really did not want to sleep for us – the plus side: I got to hold and rock him a lot which I love! He fought the swaddle like a champ. And he looked really very dashing in grey.
Meeting a family during the first weeks of their new baby’s life is a gift – it is such a tender time. Thank you for sharing it with me. I hope you love the photos.

Winter makes me long for spring, and spring makes me think of babies and thinking of babies makes me well, want a baby! But that’s not in the cards for us this year, so in order to work baby fever out of my system I want to get my hands on some gorgeous newborns. Being selected as a family’s photographer is a tremendous honor any time, but sharing the wonder of a newborn with a family is extra special and I was grateful for the opportunity to work with this amazing family…. and baby boy was a charmer – so deliciously squishy and perfect. He slept and let me mush him all around. He woke and was fed and loved and drifted back off to sleep again. Just a dream come true. I know there will be a lifetime of happy memories made by this child, and I was thrilled to capture some of the first ones. Hope you love the photos!

James is new in town. Well, he’s new everywhere but I could tell immediately when I met him this this is guy who will be loved by everyone. At only 15 days old, James was for one: incredibly strong. A newborn and he literally held his head up from a stomach down position for like 5 minutes. I seriously could not believe it. James was also amazingly peaceful for someone so fresh to life. Barely a squawk from him except when he was hungry – which was a few times but he’s obviously all muscle already (refer back to point one). Finally, his parents were lovely – relaxed, friendly and really nice (and coincidentally both from my home town and graduates from my high school – go SBHS!). Basically, James has all the right stuff and he’s handsome too. How could I forget that. Look at this face! Congratulations Jamie and Tommy on the birth of your perfect son. Hope you love the photos.

Bryan didn’t love being a newborn model. Until I got him outside, when suddenly – surrounded by nature – he became peaceful and calm. Is it a coincidence that his dad is a landscaper? I don’t know, but this kid loves pachysandra. That much is undeniable. Also undeniable? His perfection – what a handsome and sweet baby boy. Muchos besos!

What a great time photographing these two new twin angels. Relaxed, awesome parents, a sweet and cooperative big sister, mostly sleepy twins, and a helpful grandma were the recipe for an amazing session. I have known Mom, Dad and big sister Jolee since she and my son were in infant daycare together…I remember Jolee when she had little hair and no glasses! She’s just as sweet now as she was then – her generous and kind-hearted nature is apparent as she dotes gently on her new baby sisters. And what excellent babies – Sarah and Jenna already have distinct personalities and show it through their just-born behaviors. I think this is going to be one fun and active (and never boring) household!

Another gorgeous baby arrives safely in our town…another daughter for an amazing family, another sibling for a big brother and sister. But this new baby is not just another face – she is her own wondrous miracle. She has already shown her determination (to stay awake), her strength (she practically crawled!), and her voice (she will not get lost in the noise of a busy household). She has perfect, gorgeous skin, a sweet angelic face and the prettiest hair. I can’t wait to see her grow into the person she’s going to be. I loved this session and really enjoyed getting to know her lovely mom…a woman of peaceful calm and great conversation. (I remember being a sleep-deprived maniac when my little ones were 3 weeks old…)

What a great family. I had a blast at the maternity session – I so enjoyed chatting with mom and getting to know big brother Zach and so I was thrilled when mom mentioned working together again on a newborn session. I rushed home and pulled out all the pretty headbands and hats I have collected just for such an occasion. So exciting! Then we waited, but not for too long!
Miss Zoe showed up within 24 hours of her due date and she is seriously a perfect, beautiful baby. (No offense to my own baby girl, but Zoe is GORGEOUS!!!) So she’s going to be the girl who shows up to the party on time and looking amazing. She was an excellent model – she hardly cried at all, and even slept a little for us as we tormented her with a variety of “looks” (all of which she totally rocked). And Zach – the big brother who now has some experience under his belt was precious with her – he was fairly gentle for a 5 year old, and I sensed in him that special compassion for his sister that siblings share. I also got to meet grandma – she was enormously helpful by taking Zachary out for awhile so mom and I could work with Zoe. (THANKS!!!) Dad was funny and mom was lovely and extremely well composed – emotionally and appearance-wise. Make-up and everything! She looked just radiant and full of love in her home – now full with 2 beautiful children.

Many laughs were shared during this maternity session – it was so much fun meeting and working with this family. I just knew the newborn session would be amazing. And no disappointment…not only was the new baby sweet and perfect, but mom was lovely and composed – despite having an only semi-cooperative three-year old also with which to contend. The first weeks sharing your home with a newborn are strange and magical…this is true for adults and surely true for older siblings as well. I enjoyed watching the evolving dynamics in the home of this family – challenging for sure in the beginning, but the ever-present and very apparent love between mom, dad and their two gorgeous boys promises balance and joy.
Enjoy your new son, he is precious! And his big brother is amazing.
