Yes, that’s right. It was New York City and the bright lights did indeed inspire. Jay-Z (or in fact songwriters Shawn Carter, Angela Hunte, Bert Keyes, Alicia Keys, Sylvia Robinson, J. Sewell-Ulepic, and Al Shuckburgh) got this one right.
As a less-frequent-than-I-would-like visitor to the Big Apple, I still feel a rush of excitement when I step out of Penn Station and onto the fast-paced streets. The lights the people the sounds the smells – it’s intoxicating. Perhaps the novelty wears off for permanent city-dwellers or daily commuters; maybe the effect is lessened with exposure. In any case, for me NYC is a rare but greatly appreciated treat. During my visit last weekend I took some photos which I hope depict some small part of the city-inspired emotional spectrum. The complete gallery can be viewed and prints are available for purchase on the website.
Go visit NYC!
